We were on our own today, if you consider traveling with around 3000 other vehicles on your own. Our usually traveling buddies wanted to take the interstate and get to Memphis in time to do some sight seeing. We started out following the route to see how it would go today. We ended up following it the whole way to Memphis.
There was a road sign near Des Arc Arkansas that made us both burst out laughing ... "Road Unsafe When Under Water". Really, is it necessary to have a sign telling people that? The White river runs near Des Arc also, it was beautiful and really flowing.
Today's route did not have many stops and not a lot of places to stop at. Our first pit stop (and a lot of other people's) was at Fair Oaks Arkansas. This is not a very good picture but girls you gotta love this. This is the line of men waiting to use the Men's room. The ladies room had NO line at all.
Here is a shot of the parking lot at this pit stop.
A lot of people had been told that the hotels in Memphis had over booked and there were not enough rooms available. So we decided that when we got to town we would go straight to the hotel and check in before going out to the venue today. We made it to the hotel and where checked in by 11:15. That is a record for early arrival for us. We asked at the front desk for a recommendation for a place to grab some lunch before heading to Memphis International Raceway. They suggested a Italian place called "Lavoro's" we both ordered pinini's and they were pretty good.
We made it to the venue around 1. Unfortunatley they were only using one entrance to get all of the participants into the raceway so it took awhile. A lot of cars were getting hot. Thankfully, ours is not one of them! We got checked in and visited the vendors we needed to see. Since today's event was at a drag strip they had it open and anyone that wanted to could race their cars. I'm not sure if you can tell from this picture but, someone was racing a red G8, just like mine. David is getting way too many ideas about things to do to my car. I may have to be really careful when he wants to drive my car when we get home ... LOL.
The were having an event down town for us this evening, "Hot Rods on Beale Street". We left the venue and went straight down there around 3 PM. We wanted to go early and avoid some of the crowds.
We had fun wondering around up and down Beale Street and listened to some really good music at a couple different places.
We were just looking over the route they have laid out for us tomorrow going to Birmingham Alabama. It looks like it would make a really long day so I think we are just going interstate tomorrow. Maybe we can get to the venue early enough to not have to wait in line to long, looking forward to another good day.
Ricky is in Birmingham, said he saw the tour, I told him y'all were in it....
