Texarkana to Little Rock
The first thing I wrote down this morning is "It's gonna be a great day"; and it was! We planned to be on the road by 8 AM and we actually were.
These 2 pictures are from the hotel parking lot before we left this morning. Every day it's a new car show in the hotel parking lot.
We debated on following the route or just getting on the interstate and going directly to Little Rock because yesterday ended up being a little rough. So we decided that we would start out on the route and if it wasn't looking good there were several options where we could cut across and get right on Interstate 30. Almost immediately we got behind 2 slow cars that we got stuck behind yesterday for several miles in an area that we could not get around them. We just looked at each other and burst out laughing. It was a 2 lane road and we had no problem getting around them but it was a funny way to start the day. So, away we go. The scenery was beautiful; everything was so green, the stock tanks, creeks, rivers and lakes are all full of water.
We missed a great photo opportunity just outside of Glenwood Arkansas at the Caddo River, it was beautiful!! The one thing that I did not enjoy was all of the logging trucks that were heading the opposite direction. Some of you know that I have a real problem with allergies. Every time one of those trucks went by I would start hacking and coughing, about the time I would recover another one would go by. Oh well, I will survive!
We again travelled through several small towns with people out waving (love that part). My husband has no trouble resisting the peer pressure when some of those people are holding ups signs that say "Spin Your Tires" ... cough cough. We spent most of the morning looking at the tail end of a 63 Vette, not a bad view.
The route took us through Hot Springs, right in front of all of the bath houses. That is a place we will need to plan a trip back to. The area is beautiful and the buildings were too. We really enjoyed the trip today.
We got to the venue around 1ish, checked in, wandered around a little and decided we would head to the hotel and find some place to eat. The area around the fair grounds that the event was held at was old and run down, not the nicest part of town. We ended up getting separated from the Green's and had to circle back through the area. The roads in that area are pretty narrow and because of all of the Power Tour traffic was terrible. The trip from the venue to the hotel should have taken about 15 or 20 minutes, it ended up taking at least an hour.
Finally made it to the hotel and get check into our room on the 2nd floor. Then we find out the hotel doesn't have an elevator. I can't believe that a relatively new hotel that only has indoor corridors doesn't have an elevator. Oh well, we lug our stuff up the stairs, the room is pretty nice but this facility is not as nice as the last two have been and they are all the same brand name. Of course by now we are starving, we totally missed lunch (not that missing a meal is going to hurt me). The lady at the front desk told Dave about an area just up the road that has a lot of restaurants to choose from. We found the "Whole Hog Cafe", a BBQ place, it was really good.
When we got back to the hotel Dave decided to check the car over and tighten up a belt that he thinks is slipping. We are off to Memphis in the morning. We think we are going to start out following the tour route and see how it goes. I'm pretty excited, I've never been to Memphis before.
Dave has fallen in love with this car. It is the Australian version of the Pontiac G8 (my car). It has given him ideas of how to "fix up" my car. I keep reminding him that it is "my" car and I have to drive it back and forth to work everyday ... LOL.
