Warbirds and Wicked Weekend

David & I had another wonderful weekend in Dallas.

I had a doctor appointment on Friday.  Originally we were just going down to Dallas and back home on Friday.  Well, we found out that "Wicked" was in Dallas and we could get tickets for Saturday night … we couldn't not go see "Wicked".

So we drove down to Dallas on Friday morning.  Thankfully we didn't have any traffic problems and arrived almost an hour early.  My appointment was a few blocks away from the new "Cake Boss" Carlo's Bakery, so that was our first stop.  There wasn't a line so we got in and out pretty quickly.  We made it to my appointment and everything there went well.

After my appointment we decided to splurge a little and have lunch at Hillstone.  They have the best French Dip sandwich in the world (in my humble opinion).  We got there during the height of the lunch hour so there was a wait but we were not in a hurry and it was so worth it!  Then we needed to walk off our lunch so we went over to one of our favorite shopping areas in Dallas, walked around, did a lot of looking and a little shopping.  I found some things to add some color to our guest bathroom, no big changes but I think it turned out pretty well.  We then checked into our hotel and rested awhile.  That evening we went to TGI Fridays for dinner.  Neither of us was very hungry after our big lunch so we split an appetizer plate and dessert while watching the Texas Ranger game.  It was pretty good.

Originally we had no plans for Saturday, during the day.  A few days before we left I found out that the Cavanaugh Flight Museum was having "Warbirds Over Addison" that weekend.  Our hotel was not far from there, we could actually see it from our window.  So we decided to spend the day there.  It was fun and the weather was perfect for an outdoor activity.  They had a lot of old planes on display, some you could walk in and look around some they were doing ride along flights in.  They even had a Sherman Tank on display.  David enjoyed every minute of it and says he will be working overtime so he can take a ride in one of the planes next time.  We headed back to the hotel and had a little time to rest before getting ready for the evening.

We saw "Wicked" about 3 years ago when it was in San Antonio, so we knew we were in for a great evening.  We decided on Uncle Julio's for dinner.  There was one not far from the hotel and we ordered the same thing we had a couple weeks ago (at a different location).  It was another really good meal.  Then we headed to the Music Hall at Fair Park which was about 30 minutes away.  There was a wreck or something and traffic got backed up so it took closer to 45 minutes.  The GPS took us through downtown Dallas and some not so good areas but we made it in plenty of time.   It was a happy coincidence.  David & Barbie were celebrating their 40th anniversary that weekend, congratulations to them again.  We enjoyed catching up with them while waiting for the doors to open.  The show was fabulous, as expected.  I highly recommend going to see it if you ever have a chance.  I think I will be getting the soundtrack soon.  The trip back to the hotel went much smoother than getting to the venue.  It was a really good day!!

There were no signs directing you to parking and traffic was awful because there was also a Jason Aldean concert that night.  It took a while but we finally found the parking area and made our way into the Music Hall.  They were not letting anyone in yet so we were waiting in the lobby outside of the door for our seating area when I spotted our dear friends, David and Barbie.  We had no idea they were going to be there.

Sunday morning was time to head home.  David treated me to breakfast at La Madeline's before leaving Dallas.  He knows I like to go there but it certainly isn't on his Top Ten list.  Thank You Honey!!

The drive home was uneventful.  It was a very nice weekend getaway and now it is less than 3 weeks until we leave for the Power Tour.
